The 11th edition of Transpyr Coast to Coast has been postponed until the summer of 2021, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and by which governments have tightened social isolation measures, in some countries, until July.

The race had to be held from June 14 to 20 and for weeks the organization has worked with various scenarios in sight. In recent days, due to force majeure, it has been forced to discard several of them, remaining as the only and more reasonable option, the postponement until next year.

Transpyr Coast to Coast is one of the few itinerant stage races on the world calendar. This involves an extraordinary complexity. Over a week, two itineraries (mountain and road) pass through 4 French departments, 2 Spanish provinces and more than 140 municipalities, with the added particularity of two different legislations – the French and Spanish – which, in areas such as health, road safety and tourism, directly affect its development.

In addition, in all cases it is necessary to take into account the hours of light and the temperature in the Pyrenees at each time of the year, as well as the availability of dates of participants arriving from 30 different countries, the accommodation and the different providers of services.

This entails a gear that must also be perfectly adjusted in terms of cyclists’ circulation permits, the management of accommodation for the half-thousand people who make up the Transpyr Coast to Coast caravan, the coordination of staff and volunteers. And all in perfect harmony, which has led the race to be considered one of the ten best stage MTB races in the world.

Registrations are transferred directly without any surcharge

In these circumstances, the management of Transpyr Coast to Coast has decided to postpone the race on its usual dates of celebration (June-July) and to move the entries to 2021, 2022 or 2023.

Although the price of registration in the next editions should increase, obviously those registered in 2020 should not pay any difference.

In the next few days, the new dates for next year will be announced and from May 15 the registrations will be opened to everyone, until the maximum capacity of participants is completed.

The management of Transpyr Coast to Coast appreciates the support and the understanding it has received of the participants, as well as the populations that awaited them, some of them for the first time. Transpyr Coast to Coast 2020 was already organized after a hard year of work, and its managers want to underline the support of the territories and the sponsors who maintain their confidence so that next year the event can be held with all the guarantees.
